Charity Hair Cut in 2023

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

My role isn't just about nutrition, I also aim to support people with their emotional needs along the way. We all need to care for our mental health, as well as our physical health. Read about why I have chosen to donate my hair to a children's charity......

My career began in the NHS, where I was able to develop my skillset as a clinical oncology dietitian. I worked closely with clients undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy treatment, at varying stages of their diagnosis. One thing that always stuck with me was remembering the spirit and strength that many people maintained throughout their treatment.

When I learnt about the Little Princess Trust, it made me remember the clients I used to work with and what they went through. Then I tried to imagine how a child might feel, when in the same situation.

Being poorly is hard enough for a child to understand, so having to manage with the loss of their hair as well can be devastating and confusing for a child. The stories I have read via the Little Princess Trust from children's parents who have received a free wig is so moving. They explain how the confidence and fun-loving spirit of the child can be found again, when they get back that part of their identity.

I started growing my hair during lockdown, and I am almost ready to donate enough to provide a child with a long-length, real-hair wig.

Donations appreciated

The Little Princess Trust is a small charity and relies solely on the donations raised by individuals. I decided that in addition to donating my hair, I would raise enough money to enable the charity to cover the cost of making 1 wig for a child that has lost their hair due to illness or treatment (£550).

Update & Thank you!!

Post update: February 2023 - I have had my hair cut and donated 43cm of my hair to create a real-hair wig for a child. I want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated. I managed to exceed my £550 target, so the rest will go towards crucial research in childhood cancers. Here is a little photo of the evidence.....

You can check out their Instagram page to see the happy faces of the children lucky enough to receive their free wig.
